Homeschool or ESA Eligibility Information
ESA and homeschooling are both options for parents seeking alternatives to traditional public schooling in Arizona, but they differ in terms of eligibility criteria, funding sources, and educational approaches. ESA provides funding and support for students meeting specific eligibility requirements, while homeschooling gives parents full control over their child's education without financial assistance from the state.
Homeschooling
- Homeschooling in Arizona is legal and allows parents to take full responsibility for their child's education at home.
- Homeschooling parents are responsible for selecting and implementing their child's curriculum, teaching materials, and educational resources.
- Homeschooling parents must register with the county school superintendent in the county in which they live within 30 (thirty) days from the time the child begins attending home school. Yuma County Superintendent’s Office Homeschooling
Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA)
- ESA is a program initiated by the state of Arizona to provide parents with funding to customize their child's education.
- Eligibility for ESA includes specific criteria.
- ESA funds can be used for various educational expenses, including private school tuition, online learning programs, tutoring, educational therapies, textbooks, and curriculum materials.
- Parents have more flexibility in choosing educational options tailored to their child's needs and preferences.
- ESA students are typically enrolled in private schools or utilize alternative education options funded by the ESA.
Students may only participate in athletics at the school zoned for their residence.
